COVID-19
Covid-19 Support
Covid turned an already desperate situation critical. Pre-Covid, a sex-worker’s monthly earnings could barely pay for a single room in Eastlands and feed a small family of three (mother and two young kids). The fear of getting Covid coupled with the government-imposed curfew and the risk of being arrested for breaching these restrictions have meant that the work available for sex-workers reduced significantly.
Throughout 2020, Rejesha became a lifeline for over 20 sex-workers. We provided practical, emotional and financial support to these women and their families by providing over Ksh. 100,000 in food donations, rent payments and in some cases paying cash bails for those caught breaking Covid restrictions.
We donated 20 Christmas hampers with lots of food and toys to the families of these women who would have otherwise struggled to put on a good Christmas meal for their families.
